Have you heard? Streamlined Professional Renewal coming in 2017
On March 17, 2016 at PDC, the College announced Streamlined Professional Renewal. The College and associations (CDHA and BCDHA) have entered into an agreement that will align the renewal year of the associations and professional liability insurance coverage with the College’s renewal year.
As such, the College will collect all professional fees from all practicing dental hygienists in BC during the College renewal period. The new streamlined process will be integrated so that dental hygienists will enter their information and pay all their professional fees only on the College website at the same time each year.
The College has worked hard to set up a voluntary refundable deposit plan to provide an opportunity for registrants to plan for the expense of renewing registration and association membership/insurance coverage at one time. This plan is available on your registrant profile under the “Make a Payment” tab. Registrants can use this tool to put funds on deposit for the coming 2017-18 renewal period on a schedule that works for them (Streamlined Professional Renewal: Registrant FAQs, question 5).
We also encourage and welcome any questions you may have about Streamlined Professional Renewal – please do not hesitate to call (1-800-778-8277) or email the College (cdhbc@cdhbc.com), and staff would be happy to speak with you.

Keeping Up-to-Date in an Online World
One of the chief concerns the College hears from registrants is how to keep on top of navigating the growing number of professional responsibilities that have moved exclusively online. From online registration and renewal (now used 100% of the time) or submitting your QAP credits on your Online Learning Plan, to participating in June’s Annual General Meeting webcast and Coffee With the College webinars, confidence and know-how in using technology is a crucial and useful skill for dental hygienists.
Did you know that the College will accept up to 5 credits for upgrading your computer skills? Box 21: Basic Computer Skills Courses was added to the CDHBC Framework for Continuing Competency Categories in 2014. This is a broad category that can include, but is not limited, to building on your skills and confidence related to: using email; knowing your browser and what it is capable of; filling out writeable PDF documents; or, using the new electronic charting system your dental office has invested in.
Surely the most common technology problem that we as staff encounter at the College has to do with the email provider Hotmail filtering or deleting College emails. This can range in severity from a registrant missing the latest copy of Access, to missing the registration renewal deadline and being required to reinstate, or even to re-apply as a new registrant upon removal. Hotmail regularly filters crucial College emails into the Junk/Spam folder, which automatically deletes its contents after 10 days: in most cases, registrants cannot even go back to look for a missed email because it has already been removed by Hotmail.
We strongly encourage registrants with existing Hotmail accounts to at the very least subscribe to a free Gmail (or comparable) account, which you can then put on file as your College email contact. This will help to reduce the risk of missed or wayward emails – for it is the registrant's responsibility to ensure that their chosen email host will accept College email notices. Furthermore, you can take the extra step to ensure that the College email address (cdhbc@cdhbc.com) has been added to your “safe senders” list, and continue to scan your Junk/Spam folders for misdirected College email notifications. If you are not getting any emails from the College please check your contact information on your registrant profile to ensure we have your correct email address.

Moving?
It is a bylaw requirement that registrants of the College ensure that their mailing address is always current on the CDHBC register. Incorrect or out-of-date addresses can lead to missed mailings that may include important notices and documents. Address changes can be submitted online at www.cdhbc.com or via email to cdhbc@cdhbc.com and should include the following information.
- Name
- Registration Number
- Old Address
- New Address
- Email
- Telephone
- Effective Date
